This may be a little outside the anatomical accuracy focus of your blog, but why do most female comic characters seem to fight crime/evil/aliens/[insert villain here] in what amounts to fetish wear or stripper gear as opposed to women's wear from 5.11 Tactical or Blackhawk?

Well, it IS an issue.
I just responded to a question about Robyn Hood, and commented on the costume. Also over at EscherGirls, comicpanels submitted this photoshopped picture of Scarlett Johansonn as Black Widow that illustrates how ridiculous the drawn costumes can be.

However, I don’t think all female heroes should be wearing tactical gear, because not all female superheroes are tanks and bruisers. Magic/energy manipulators, range attackers, and dexterous/acrobatic characters would be impeded by such clothing. Clothing can be cool and awesome but it doesn’t have to be all cutouts and boob windows and superpowered wedgies. Just look at the new Captain Marvel, or Catwoman when she’s not unzipped down to her navel, or Miss Martian and Artemis from the Young Justice animated series. They’re all different types of heroes, they do different kinds of things, and their costumes reflect their abilities and the way they perform.
